Hand-painted French tray with blue flowers

This large French plate/tray is a beautiful example of honest traditional pottery. It is hand-painted, which is evident in the delicate blue floral motifs - each brushstroke is slightly different and this is what gives it its personality and charm. On the back it bears a hand-marked "d écoré main", which confirms the method of production. The manufacturer's mark is unfortunately illegible due to its age.

The shape of the plate is elegantly wavy, ideal not only for serving but also as a decoration. It is suitable for cake, pastries, fruit, cheeses or just placed on a table or in a display case, where it will be a joy even without further use.

It looks calm, timeless and very natural – exactly the type of piece that would fit into a country kitchen, but equally well into a more modern interior, where it would create a subtle contrast.

The condition of the plate is very nice, it bears subtle traces of time in the form of small scratches on the sides and slight cracking of the glaze (see photos).

We discovered the tray in an old Provençal farmhouse – a stone farmhouse surrounded by olive trees, where in the summer people cook with the windows open and dine late into the evening.

How would we use it? We imagine it placed in the middle of the table, filled with fresh pastries, fruit from the garden or cheeses to accompany an evening glass of wine.
